Bulimia Nervosa:
Caustic patterns of eating extremely followed vomiting are characteristics of Bulimia Nervosa. The "purging" (throwing up food eaten or using laxatives to remove eaten food) after "binging" (overeating) happens because the person feels guilty about overeating and presents a grave danger to the patient's bodily well being, with dehydration, hormonal imbalance, the depletion of important minerals, and harm to vital organs.
Symptoms Specific to Bulimia without Anorexia:
People with bulimia almost always practice it in secret, and, although they may be underweight, they are not always anorexic. Symptoms of bulimia may, therefore, be very subtle and go unnoticed. They may include:
* Proof of discarded packaging for laxatives, diet medication, emetics (drugs that induce vomiting), or diuretics (medications that reduce fluids)
* Habitually going to the bathroom right after meals
* Abruptly consuming large amounts of food or buying large quantities that disappear right away
* Compulsive or obsessive exercising
* Broken blood vessels in the eyes (from the strain of vomiting)
* Pouch-like appearance to the corners of the mouth due to swollen salivary glands
* Tooth cavities, diseased gums, and irreversible enamel erosion from excessive acid
* Rashes and pimples
