VMware rolls out vCenter application suite

Bangalore: VMware rolled out the vCenter application suite, designed to help enterprises that use the vSphere cloud operating system to manage their data centers. The announcement was made at the VMworld 2009 held in San Francisco. vCenter is designed to automate tasks like datacenter provisioning, monitoring, change and performance management. It is also designed to manage policies and service level agreements. Each virtual server will operate to a specified service level. "As customers continue their journey toward building private clouds with VMware vSphere4, integrated and consistent management of their mixed physical and virtual environments is a top priority," said Brian Byun, Vice President of global alliances, VMware. "We are excited to see our ecosystem partners work with VMware to integrate their solutions with the VMware vCenter family of products to deliver end-to-end management solutions for customers." The vCenter family includes, 'AppSpeed' to manage service level reporting for virtualized applications and 'CapacityIQ' to manage capacity levels of virtual machines resources and data centers. 'ConfigControl' checks compliance and configuration states, 'Site Recovery Manager' automates disaster recovery tasks 'LifeCycle Manager' automates virtual machines from provisioning to retirement and 'Chargeback' allocates infrastructure costs. In addition there is a 'Lab Manager' which aims to ease development, quality assurance and pre-production environments.
