Venture Capital fund to Promote Dalit Entrepreneurs in India
This initiative by the government and SEBI would help such entrepreneurs as they find it difficult to raise funds and run their business. Over 60 per cent of 180 Dalits in the country are still dependent on daily wages, which makes it difficult for them to lead their daily lives.
The Dalit community has strived hard to show their business ability and entrepreneurial skills. This community owns about 1,20,000 companies across the country which includes 7.7 per cent of the registered 1.55 million micro, small and medium enterprises, as per a MSMEs census for 2006-07.
"If a Dalit entrepreneur requires a certain sum of money for his business, the venture capital fund will invest the sum in his company in return for shares in the enterprise. In other words the VC fund will become a stake-holder in the enterprise. When the enterprise starts making profits, they will be shared by the company and DICCI, says Dalit activist and mentor to DICCI.
Going forward, Dalit Entrepreneurs would not have to be worried about collaterals as the community has its own Venture Fund.
