Universal gaming controller launched by Sony
Bangalore: Sony, the creator of successful gaming console series PlayStation, has filed a patent for a gaming controller with a touchscreen LCD screen that can be used with more than one type of gaming console. Whether the different types of consoles include Microsoft's Xbox 360 or Nintendo's Wii isn't being specified, but it technically could and the technical drawing included in the patent does bear the Nintendo and Xbox names, according to electronista. The display can replicate the button layout and configuration of nearly any controller currently on the market, as long as it's preprogrammed into the device. The virtual layout also has plural keys that can be selected by the user to input commands to a game console. Many gamers use more than one game console and might find this invention very useful. It will be difficult to predict whether virtual buttons will be better than physical buttons. But it might just make the gaming experience much more convenient. Sony has so far not claimed that it will be making any controller of this sort, though it is quite obvious that the process of developing it must have already started. The company has filed the patent with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
