Bangalore: Unitech Wireless, in which Telenor recently bought a majority stake, will roll out its services under 'UniNor' brand by the end of this year.
For Telenor, which owns a 49 percent stake in Unitech Wireless, this is the first greenfield venture where the Norwegian communications company is not using its own brand, said an industry executive privy to the branding decision. Telenor is awaiting Cabinet approval to raise its stake in the venture to 67.25 percent.
The company has more than 900 employees on board with more than 1,200 shortlisted distributors. It is targeting a pan-India market share of 8 percent, and will have a capex of
2, 500-3,200 crore in FY 09 with an EBIDTA (Earnings before Interest, Taxes, Depreciation and Amortization) loss of
1, 100-1,400 crore during the fiscal.
Unitech Wireless is slated to launch mobile services starting with the South Indian states. Against the traditional model of splitting the country into 22 telecom circles, the telecom operator has decided to have 11 regional hubs in cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Delhi (NCR), Patna, Mumbai, Guwahati, Chandigarh and Indore.
