New Delhi: Telecom regulator TRAI released a consultation paper seeking views of stakeholders on the issue of revenue sharing arrangement for intelligent network services, which includes toll free calls and televoting.
"It has been noted that despite being allowed by the IN Services Regulation, some of the service providers could not arrive at mutually agreed revenue sharing arrangement," TRAI said in a statement.
IN-based services include toll free calls, televoting and Voice Virtual Private Network service.
Before the Intelligent Network (IN) Services Regulation was issued, subscribers were able to only access the IN services of their own telecom operator.
This made access to toll-free numbers of institutions like hospitals difficult for subscribers if their service provider did not own the platform.
Through the consultation paper, TRAI aims to seek views of the stakeholders on revenue sharing from IN based services among the inter-connecting service providers, TRAI said.
This will help TRAI in arriving at a framework by which interconnecting service providers can be fairly compensated, it added.
Also, telecom operators have not been able to reach an agreement for calling card services and some of them have requested TRAI to prescribe interconnection and commercial arrangement between players for this service.
The last date of receiving comments and counter-comments has been set at November 30 and December 10, respectively.
