Bangalore: Every now and then media keeps up flashing news of politicians tweeting about or on someone or the other. This shows how our politicians have hung up on this new thing to make news, controversies and also generate public support.
Twitter has turned out to be an effective tool to unite within the public, as it gives the politicians to have one on one session with the public, address the acute grievances of the nation. In its 140 character limit, a tweet is a short and sweet way to express your views, the popularity of twitter and the easiness of its use has made it the latest and the greatest favorite of the politicians as well as the public as a mode of public-government interaction.
However, there are innumerable politicians who have not taken up to twitter which might be because of the controversial factor associated with it. Media is constantly monitoring on the latest tweets made by our politicians and ready to grab on another hot cake for next day's headlines.
The President of America has been tweeting for a long time and boost of a record of 9,914,259 followers. On the other hand, the Indian Prime Minister, though has an account on twitter has never tweeted yet.
Here is a list of politicians who are seen active on Twitter and have undergone its pros and cons.
1. Omar Abdullah
Media has been reporting of Omar making tweets and targeting BJP. On 1st September, Omar Abdullah tweeted that if the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passed a resolution seeking mercy for terror convict Afzal Guru on the lines of Tamil Nadu, the reaction would not be "as muted", triggering a sharp attack from the BJP. He tweeted, "I'm curious to see what Shahnawaz Hussian & the other BJP chaps are gonna say now. This is their Government in Punjab."
On this issue BJP was prompt to react and termed Omar's remark as shocking and unfortunate. On a previous note Omar tweeted regarding the sports bill that seeks more transparency from sports bodies, and limits the powers of those who head them. Omar, who is the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, reflected the opinion of many when he tweeted, "On a separate note, I believe the Union Ministers heading sports bodies should have excused themselves from the Sports Bill discussion."
Earlier during March 2011, Omar tweeted, "My father is a better dancer than Sushma Swaraj" as the BJP leader's controversial dance at the Rajghat continued to draw comments.
At present Omar have 50,270 followers on twitter.
