5. Name: Reward Volunteers

What it does: This app allows volunteers to log time, talk about what they’re doing and earn rewards not only for themselves but also the organizations they serve.

How it works: Users log in and let the app clock volunteer time so they can focus on more volunteer work. As the number of hours logged in and activity shared increases, there is a greater chance of the volunteers (as well as their organizations) winning prizes.

Why the idea works: The iPhone and web app, allow volunteers track their hours and post activity to Facebook which could prove to be of added additional benefit for organizations if they are tagged since it provides them extra publicity. Volunteers are selected to win prizes every month, which range from gift certificates to a vacation for four. Organizations can also win a $3,000 donation, provided they are certified as U.S. 501(c)3 organizations.
