The highest paid Indian-American in White House
New York: According to salary details released by the White House, Sonal Shah, Deputy Assistant to U.S. President Barack Obama and the Director of the Office of Social Innovation and Civic Participation, becomes the highest paid Indian-American in the White House with a gross earnings of $10,000 or about Rs 4.65 lakh each month. Shah has been with the Google previously, where she headed global development for its philanthropic arm. Shah is among the senior most Indian-Americans in the Obama Administration. Shah had a tested track record in the non-profit sector having helmed Indicorps and led Goldman Sachs' environmental strategy. Shah leads a group of 14 Indian-Americans in the White House when it comes to getting paid by the Administration. Although these amounts may not appear impressive to this group of Indian-Americans, who are from elite US universities, a tenure at the White House or even the Administration is considered a step towards a strong political and professional future. Since most of them are in their 30s and 40s, they could expect higher positions in the future. Michael Hash and Timothy Love are the highest paid two employees in the White House and interestingly they are from another federal agency, who have been assigned to the White House. Overall, the White House listed 469 employees (down by 18 since a year ago) with the combined annual salary bill coming to $38.7 million.
