Charles Schwab: Selling Walnuts to Brokerages
Charles R Schwab is the founder of the Charles Schwab Corporation, which is one of the largest discount brokerages. He had a very modest start in the sense that he searched the woods for walnuts, when the children of his age would be playing. Within a year, he left the walnut business as he felt that concentrated too much on the commodity. He started selling chicken and eggs to people after observing their consumption pattern. The lessons that he learnt from his businesses made him understand his customers better and after graduating, he rationalized his businesses after identifying an adequate opportunity in launching an investment indicator.
