Visa raised $17.9 billion in its IPO in 2008, which helped increase its stock prices from $44 to $66 and saw participation from more than 35 investment banks. Visa announced the merger of Visa Canada, Visa International, and Visa U.S. into a new public company. The underwriters for the IPO, JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Bank of America, Citi, HSBC, Merrill Lynch, UBS Investment Bank, and Wachovia Securities exercised the option for overallotment, bringing an additional 40.6 million shares, which brought the IPO proceeds to $19.1 billion.
