10. Raghuram Govind Rajan, Honorary Advisor to the Prime Minister:

An American economist of Indian origin, he has also worked as a consultant for the Indian finance ministry, the World Bank, Federal Reserve Board and Swedish Parliamentary Commission. Rajan was the Economic Counsellor and Director of Research at the International Monetary Fund from October 2003 until December 2006. He was the youngest individual to hold this position. Prior to this, Rajan taught at the Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago, where he was the Joseph L Gidwitz Professor of Finance. Rajan was born in Bhopal. In 1985, he graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. He earned his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. He did his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, Rajan joined the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago.
