Temporary Data Center for UID scheme to come up in Bangalore

Bangalore: The State government today sanctioned 139 crore for establishing a temporary Data Center in the city to implement the Unique Identification Card scheme. A cabinet meeting chaired by Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa sanctioned the fund for establishing the Center, Minister for Higher Education, V S Acharya, told reporters. The UID scheme was taken up in two districts on a pilot basis and later in eight districts. It would now be taken up in 20 districts, he said. Detailing other projects approved by the Cabinet, Acharya said it approved the proposal to recruit 75 retired veterinary doctors on contract basis to cover the shortage in its veterinary hospitals. Recently the government recruited 287 veterinary doctors, of which only 211 reported for duty. The government decided to enhance allocation to Minority Development Corporation from Rs 100 crore to Rs 150 crore to meet the demand for loans by minority students and women, the minister said. The government also decided to go for an additional power generation of 200 MW from reneweable sources including solar energy to augument energy production, he said. The Kar Samaadhan scheme being offerred to Excise Contractors to recover arrears of about Rs 500 crore has been extended upto June 30, he added. The earlier deadline expired on March 31. Under the scheme, those who clear the arrears would benefit from interest and penal interest waiver, Acharya said.
