Chennai: VIVA communications, provider of converged IP communication solutions, has launched video conferencing solutions for educational institutions. Initially, the company plans to start the operations from South India, by enabling schools and colleges to bring innovative modes of teaching including e-learning and distant education programs. The delivery of the solution will be done by a UK based company. The Chennai based company has invested 10 lakh to set up back-end infrastructure. VIVA will assist educational institutions in setting up the technology, procure necessary equipment besides training the staff on using the solution. "Education as a sector is changing rapidly and deployment of technology is a must for any educational institution to take advantage of the myriad benefits that it brings and utilize it to improve the quality of the education delivered. Our offering will enable more innovation in the sector. We have made it easier for the sector which is getting IT savvy to adopt this cutting edge technology," said Srinivasan S, Founder and Director of VIVA Communications. As of now only a few institutions have started offering courses using video conferencing in India. The video conferencing solutions would enable schools to share resources, including teachers, with other schools and would be helpful for schools looking to teach fine arts, languages and other subjects where the availability of the teachers and the costs involved prove to be a barrier. The technology can be used for conducting lectures by overseas teachers and thus enables access to global knowledge.
