Bangalore: The new research in the U.S. found that playing video games damages the brain.  Researchers at the Indiana University submitted the new report at the annual conference of the Radiological Society of North America in Chicago. The violent video games can harm various brain processing activities like emotions, learning, organizing, planning and problem-solving.

Researchers developed their survey on a number of 18-29 aged youngsters who played violent video games for 10 hours over the course of a week. The sample studies have shown that it had decreased the brain activities which controlled their sentiments and aggressive nature.

Refused to name the game they used as the research material, they said it was one of the popular games of ‘first person shooter’ war games where the player have the role of a gunman, the author Dr. Yang Wang said.

Previous studies had suggested that non-violent games do not have the risk of damaging brain activities. While the gamers consider it as just games, brain cannot differentiate the difference of reality and the replication in the same manner, the study co-author Dr. Vincent Mathews said.

According to one study, adding fish in your diet at least once in a week can radically bring down the risk of having Alzheimer’s in old age.  The study strongly suggests one serve of baked or broiled fish in the diet. This study was conducted by Dr. Cyrus Raji from the University of Pittsburgh compared the diets of 260 healthy men and women with brain scans. The 163 of them served fish at least once a week- found almost five times less chance of getting Alzheimer’s or dementia even after next ten years.

“Dementia is a disorder that really robs people of a fundamental aspect of who they are, by taking away their memories,” he said. “This is the first study to establish a direct relationship between fish consumption, brain structure and Alzheimer’s risk.” Being low in the Omega-3 oils, fried fish will not help to defend against brain damage, he added.

The study claims walking is the best way to maintain physical and mental health later in life. The 10 kilometers of walking in a week will improve the mental ability, memory power and those will have a bigger brain than the inactive people. The regular mental and physical exercises can also reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s, the earlier studies have reported. These findings are highlighted today as it’s revealed that nearly 1.5 million Americans struggle with incurable dementia.
