Google's Android OS had a slow start, launching in late 2008 with the T-Mobile G1. The only other Android phone on the market was the HTC Magic; things picked up after Motorola committed to produce only Android Smartphone's, and launched its successful Droid line. Now at least 500,000 Android based devices can be found every day, and according to a data 43 percent of Smartphone owners in the U.S. have an Android device. On the other hand there were a lot of talks around Google producing its own Smartphone, but when the Nexus One finally made its debut on Google's Web site, ditching the usual carrier based purchasing scheme didn't really pay off. Users could purchase the device online for $529.99 or $179.99 with a two year contract from T-Mobile. However, the sales of Verizon Wireless and Sprint versions of the Nexus One were eventually abandoned. Google announced of shutting down its Web store.
