The Mobile App future 'previewed' at MDC Pune

Pune: When Graham Bell invented the telephone he assumed that it would be used as a device to communicate. I was of the same belief as I grew up, but then came the cell phones, and then came the internet, and then can came cell phones with internet and stunning capabilities, games , crm suites, You name it! And there was no turning back! it has never been the same again. Accelerometers, touchscreens, GPS-based location awareness and similar features are fast becoming as essential to us as our basic necessities. Experts predict the smart phones to behave more like laptops with time. Android and apple fight it out in terms of the number of handsets they are available on. The mobile tele-density in India is almost 44% and is majorly driven by rural and semi-urban users. Need we say more about the scope that smart devices and smart applications hold! With almost 400 million mobile users, India is fast turning out to be the hotbed for the next big thing - Mobile Application Development. Silicon India brought together more then 300 Android and iPhone developers and architects under one roof and the information exchange that followed was as fast as the fast changing smart phone market itself. An impressive line up of highly experienced speakers delivered eye opening sessions on latest technologies that will define the mobile market of tomorrow, as the audience comprising of Mobile application developers, strategists, architects and entrepreneurs listened with complete focus. Kedar Bhise, who delivered the first talk of the day on 'Extending Enterprise Applications to Mobile - Key Considerations' said 'Extending enterprise applications to the mobile workforce involves several aspects which must be given due consideration by all stakeholders involved: business, IT, mobility, information security. In order to achieve long term success in this area, we as a community need to apply the same rigour and processes that are currently applied to desktop applications. This will ensure that we address the considerations around Design, Security, Development, Testing, Governance and Maintenance in a meaningful and conclusive manner.' Speaking about the event Kedar said 'It was good to see the overwhelming response from the mobile development community in Pune. Looking forward to more such events from Silicon India.' Arun Kumar Pattabhiraman, Merchant Account Manager-APAC & Africa, InMobi who spoke on 'Global Mobile Payments' said it was a good event and that he was overwhelmed to see the jam-packed audience.Speaking about Global Mobile Payments he said 'The growing interest in android and iOS in India was evident from the huge turnout of app developers at the event. However, I feel that there is still a need to generate ample awareness about app- monetization opportunities for individual developers in the country. It would be heartening to see another Rovio emerge out of India in the near future!' The events was divided into two tracks titled ANDROID and iPhone in order to have a better reach. Shailendra R. Sinhasane, Managing Director, Mobisoft Infotech spoke on 'Pricing Strategies for iOS Enterprise Applications' and had this to say about the conference 'SiliconIndia's developer conference proves that there is very active developer community in mobility apps development. They provided a vibrant conference for Pune's mobile developers.' Parag Arjunwadkar from Syntel said that developers can come forward and create solutions around issues such as Converting websites to mobi sites, application development across the platform - Platform agnostic frameworks, Business Intelligence on Mobile and also elaborated on Syntel's IP developed by a strong team of mobile resources for SmartEx - PeopleSoft extensions on mobile devices among other things. Anand Gupta, Solutions Architect, shared some of the latest key features coming up in iOS 5 and how developers can use this knowledge to take advantage and build amazing new applications. He covered important features of Notification Center, iMessage, Newsstand, Reminders, Twitter, Camera, Photos, Safari, PC Free, Mail, Calendar, Game Center, Wi-Fi Sync, Airplay Mirroring for iPad 2, iCloud, Automatic Reference Counting (ARC), Storyboards, Core Image, OpenGL ES, New instruments and Location simulation. Karthik Krishna Co-Founder of Arkenea Technologies spoke on iPhone User Interface Design Essentials to a thunderous applause, and left the audience wanting for more. 'The conference was well structured and delivered for the participants. SiliconIndia's effort in building forums for developers to network and increase their skill level in iPhone and Android platforms is highly commendable. During my interaction with developers in networking sessions, I received very positive feedback from them on the quality of speakers chosen for the program and the content shared in the talks. Keep up the good work," said Karthik after the Conference. Altaf Rehmani, Projects Director, Redbytes Software spoke on 'Rapid Mobile App Development with the Corona SDK.' "The LUA language and the SDK is easy to pickup, productive to develop and works beautifully across the two dominant mobile platforms, iOS and Android. Ansca is working on creating a excellent ecosystem for small and indie game developers to help go beyond developing apps' said Altaf, and the fact that Tinytapps could go live 5 apps within 3 months further justifies his talk. Mohit Mathur, Senior Software engineer, Symantec had the audience admiring his session when he spoke on the issue of 'How to develop a secure app on the two most popular smartphone platforms - iOS and Android' "A responsible mobile app developer should make use of effective safeguards to secure data during storage, while communicating with cloud and while being shared with other applications from the same vendor. This can be achieved by using - stronger encryption, binding data to the device, disabling weak cipher suites, code signing thereby mitigating any threats to the user's private data." Said Mohit. The audience got 'future ready' with respect to an emerging technology NFC, when Vikas Verma, VP- Emerging Technologies, Cybage Software, addressed the topic of 'Mobility & Near Field Communications (NFC) - Getting future ready'. "NFC capabilities on Mobile devices have huge business transformation potential. The possibilities are very broad; spanning from revolutionizing Payment solutions, eValets, ticketing systems, digital marketing, identity management, device federation etc." said Vikas. Speaking on the audience Vikas said "The event seemed like a nice forum and I was particularly pleased with the audience mix. The inquisitiveness and interest of the audience in the subject was surprising and I am very pleased with the same." Bhuvan Khanna from Weboniselab spoke the all important issue of Android Apps Testing - Overview of a Structured Approach in an Agile Environment. "The audience was delightfully lively, and it was an enriching experience to interact with the remarkably focused gathering, across the mobile domain. The sessions were holistic and covered most of the business and technological challenges and the latest developments in the industry." Said Bhuvan.
