Bangalore: Symantec has declared its PcAnywhere application is safe again with the release of new security patch. The company had earlier asked customers to disable the product due to the risk of losing data after it found that the source code for PcAnywhere was stolen in 2006.

New security patch is released for PcAnywhere version 12.5 and for the old versions 12.0 and 12.1. According to the company, the customers who have patched their software with these updates will be protected. Symantec also offer free upgrade to version 12.5 for all users.

The security risk was exposed after Symantec admitted the theft of source code of some of its products by the hacktivist group, Anonymous, back in 2006. The PcAnywhere software, which allows a user to connect to other remote computers, had remained relatively unchanged from 2006 unlike other products, which made it more vulnerable.
