Bangalore: A new research by Websense Security Labs has revealed that FIFA World Cup has become a way to attract the recipients to open the mail which in turn infects the computer. The user will receive a message with the subject line "FIFA World Cup South Africa...bad news". The message itself is very short which leads to a malicious website. Over 80,000 email messages have been detected in this campaign.
This Javascript redirects your browser to hxxp://advancedwoodtech.com/xnu4ej/z.htm.As the website mentioned is not active at the moment, further investigation regarding the problem is on hold. But the receivers of the mails will without a doubt download some malware, which will attempt to infect your computer and get redirected to a spam web site of the Canadian Pharmacy. This email contains the characteristics of earlier campaigns which used social media which were used to tempt visitors to a website and to get their computers infected.
The Websense Security Labs is currently protecting their customers with real-time analytics using their ACE engine. It is recommended that upon receiving the email one should not open the attached HTML file and delete the email immediately.
Expert from Websense note that, "Looking at the raw contents of the attached HTML file, we can see that it is nothing more than an obfuscated script. If the script is allowed to run, the script opens a new web page in your browser that either redirects you to an attack site or to a spam page."
