4. Leo Apotheker, Hewlett-Packard (1 year): CEO from: Sept.2010 - Sept.2011
CEO
Apotheker became HP's CEO after former CEO Mark Hurd was booted from the company following a sex scandal. Despite his brief tenure, Apotheker had enacted a number of bold moves, including continuing HP's history of acquisitions into the enterprise space. But HP Executive Chairman Ray Lane said the board had to give up on Leo to make a leadership change because the company habitually missed financial targets, botched communications, lost credibility with Wall Street, and couldn't rally HP's 320,000 employees. Leo Apotheker came to HP from SAP AG, where he served as CEO for only 10 months and oversaw the first major job cuts since the company launched.
