LONDON: Over one million websites were closed down in China in 2010, BBC reported. The Chinese Academy of Social Sciences said there were 41 percent fewer websites at the end of 2010 than in 2009. China has tightened regulations on the internet in recent years, and launched a crackdown on pornographic websites in 2009. Liu Ruisheng, a researcher from the academy, said that despite the declining number of websites, the number of web pages rose to 60 billion during 2010.
