North Carolina: Storage and data management solutions provider NetApp has opened a new datacenter in North Carolina, which it says will allow significant savings due to its efficiency-focused design. The facility in Research Triangle Park has been online since April but the company held an official grand opening ceremony on Wednesday, reports Dynamics Datacenter. "We've been seeing very significant growth in our equipment needs," said Richard Clifton, SVP and General Manager for NetApp's Technology Enablement and Solutions Organization. Besides providing capacity for growth, the company is also consolidating a lot of equipments from its facilities around the world into the new datacenter. "What we have is many engineering sites," Clifton explained. "Whether it's in California or in Bangalore, each of these sites is growing and previously they had engineering labs that grew with them. We're figuring out ways to reduce those footprints." The company will use the space saved by consolidating equipment to accommodate an expanding staff. Another motivation behind the $65 million project has been to building a datacenter that uses cutting-edge efficiency methodologies and solutions. The building was built from scratch and NetApp shares its designs with clients, helping them design efficient mission-critical facilities of their own.
