NComputing bags deal from ESIC and Wipro for 'Project Panchdeep'
Bangalore: NComputing, a desktop virtualization company has won a contract from Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) and Wipro for 'Project Panchdeep', one of the largest e-governance projects in India. The project will aim to streamline insurance and healthcare services that ESIC provides to employers, employees and state and central government workers. "NComputing, which has been selected for the strategic initiative, will improve the healthcare system and services for the 12 million beneficiaries in the nation, by speeding insurance and medical devices," explained Stephen Dukker, Chairman and CEO, NComputing. Also, according to Dukker, unlike the traditional clients, who rely on high-end servers and involve complex installation, NComputing solutions can connect to desktop PCs and run in minutes. He added, "Up to 30 users can share a single PC or hundreds can share a server. Through this, our customers can save on capital expenses and operating expenses by 75 percent." The company claims that its devices only use one watt of electricity as compared to 120 watts of electricity for a dedicated PC. This strategic initiative includes the computerization of 144 hospitals, 620 medical insurance branches, 1388 dispensaries or clinics, and 51 regional offices across the nation. It will also issue 20 million medical ID cards that can be used at any ESIC facility and will also rollout Unified Information System that automates for greater efficiency, transparency and accountability. ESIC is the Indian Government chartered insurance and healthcare organization delivering social security benefits to employed individuals and their families. And, Wipro which is a global provider of IT and business transformation had bagged the project from ESIC worth 1182 crores. "With the constant endeavor to bring in efficient and cost-effective solutions to the customers, Wipro desktop platform with NComputing devices and software deployed will ensure effective and optimum utilization of resources at minimum cost to ESIC beneficiaries," said Ashok Tripathy, General Manager, Wipro Infotech. NComputing's L130 thin clients will be deployed for the Panchdeep project, and over 31,000 L130s will be connected to Wipro's desktop PCs operating on Windows OS, which will then connect to the cloud computing environment in India at ESIC datacentres. Commenting on the growth of the Ncomputing in India, the Chief Marketing Officer of NComputing, Raj Shah said, "India has been a better market for NComputing because of both lower cost and the lower operating expenses on power consumption. And, in two years, the country will be the largest market for NComputing."
