Bangalore: About 70 to 80 percent of all the mobile phones shipped next year are expected to be smart phones says Florian Seiche, head of HTC EMEA ,which recently launched their premium smartphones , the Desire HD and Desire Z. Smartphones have become a common man's premium possession. By this, it has huge market demand and all mobile manufacturers are concentrating on the sweet spot. HTC, like Samsung and LG, is among those who are set to make new handsets with Microsoft's Windows Phone Software. Demand for high-end smartphones will continue to be strong as users upgrade their mobile phones and first-time users reach out for premium handsets. HTC, smartphone brand, recently introduced two new handsets using Google's Android software. With Apple's iphone and Google's Android we have Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 joining the bandwagon. The launch of these smartphones has led to a competition where companies are running from pillar to post in the courthouse to settle patent disputes. Microsoft recently sued Motorola, a big maker of Android phones; while Apple has sued Taiwanese phone maker HTC. Research firm Gartner predicts the Android operating system will become the world's second most popular operating system for cell phones this year, almost two years sooner than first expected. Nokia, who dominates the mid- and low-end smartphones, leaves the high-end segment open to its closest rival RIM and Apple. The smartphone market has become ultra-competitive in 2010 and smartphone wars will be good news for consumers, but the fierce competition will inevitably place downward pressure on vendors' pricing and margins
