Bangalore: Microsoft has finally announced the Kinect, gaming controller, will be released for Software Development Kit (SDK) in the month of September as a free downloader. The Kinect is being developed by Microsoft Research (MSR) in collaboration with Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB). This SDK will be available for only windows users. This tool will give academic researchers and enthusiasts access to Kinect system information such as audio, system application, programming interfaces and direct control of the Kinect sensor. This Kinect for Windows SDK is now open for developers, researchers and academicians to make the best of the motion sensing controller. We can support Kinect as Natural User Interface (NUI) which is more than an innovative platform for gaming and entertainment. The students from the University of Washington's Biorobotics lab have already researched on the Kinect with a Phantom Omni Haptic Device to investigate how robotic surgery can be improved by building 3D models that can include the sense of feel. Microsoft is quite optimistic about the Kinect and now we have to see how developers will make proper use of it once it comes.
