It's raining tablets - Beetel joins the tablet race in India

Bangalore: Technology brand Beetel, an arm of Bharati Group will soon be out with a 7-inch tablet computer next month. Beetel, which is the latest one to join the growing list of tablet manufacturers, has not revealed much about its new endeavor. As of now, everything is kept under wraps. A few aspects of the upcoming tablet that sneaked out are that the tablet will be in the 7 inch category and will run Andriod 2.2 Froyo. Rahul Mahajan, the Head of Mobile Business of Beetel Teletech, said, "It will have Android 2.2 Operating System. It will be sold at a very affordable price." He also mentioned that the company would roll out more tablets in the subsequent months. It would also launch Android and touch phones next month. On Monday, the company has launched two models ,GD 310 and GD 218, with features like dual SIM, FM radio and one-touch torch light , which are priced at 1,799 and 1,499 respectively. Rahul also mentioned that the company would set up exclusive retail outlets besides building a distribution network across the country. Being a late entrant in the Indian mobile handset market, Beetel Teletech aims to be among the top three players in this segment by 2013. The tech brand plans to launch two new advanced mobile devices every month. Currently, it sells 150,000 handsets every month. Moreover, Mahajan added, "We will build a strong distribution network. The company will launch four more models, including high-end, touch screen and Android-enabled handsets by September." There is no word though as to what the expected price tag the tablets would sport; however, Rahul did say they are here for the long run with more tablets to be launched in future
