Bangalore: Intel is all set to ship its dual-core i5 and i7 microprocessors based on the Sandy Bridge architecture for laptops on February 20. The company will ship five Core i7 and four Core i5 chips for end user laptops and ultraportables.
The new range of microprocessors will consume 17 to 35 watts of power and run at the speed between 1.4GHz and 2.7 GHz.
The Core i7 -2620M chip includes 4MB of cache and runs at a speed of 2.7 GHz but it can also expand to 3.4 GHz under certain conditions. It has 8 GB memory size with 21.3 GB/s memory Bandwidth. The Core i5 -2540M processor includes 3 MB of cache. It runs at 2.6 GHz and can draw up to 35 watt of power with 8 GB memory. The Core i7 -2620M and Core i5 -2540M are the fastest chips in the Core i7 and Core i5 family of chips respectively.
Intel had announced last week about a flaw in the chipset with new Sandy Bridge processor and many computer companies delayed the launching of some of their products.
But the company has also declared on Monday that after consulting with computer manufacturers they are resuming the flawed chipsets for use in some computer system that are not impacted by the defect.
However Intel is expecting to begin shipping of new version of the chip which includes specialized hardware accelerators to quickly encode and decode video. The Sandy Bridge microprocessors are more power efficient than their predecessors and offers faster application and graphic performances.
