Madurai: A science park is to be established as part of India-based Neutrino Observatory (INO) project which is being established in Theni district. It will be open to the public, especially for school and college students. The 1,200-crore underground INO project in the West Bodi Hills in Theni district has got clearance from the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests, reports Shastry V. Mallady of the Hindu. "We have made a formal request to the State Government and the Theni district administration to allot land for the park. They were very receptive," said a senior official. This park is meant to educate students about science while they are playing. The INO will be headquartered in in Madurai and for that purpose the land has been identified. 30 acres of land bordering the Vadapalanji/Karadipatti villages near the Madurai Kamaraj University has been offered for INO headquarters. "At the Theni site, we will have only the detector for experimental studies. We will have a laboratory in the Madurai centre for data analysis," an official said. The INO project will sign an agreement of cooperation with educational institutes in and around Madurai.
