New Jersey: Telecommunications solutions provider Huawei has been honored with the IEEE Standards Association (IEEE-SA) 2009 Corporate Award in recognition of the company's achievements in IEEE standards development. The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE)-SA Corporate Award is presented annually to an IEEE-SA member organization for providing outstanding leadership and contributions to the IEEE-SA. Past recipients include Mentor Graphics, Intel, Motorola, HP, Sony, Lucent Technologies - Bell Labs, and IBM. "The IEEE-SA Corporate Award honors Huawei for its dedication in partnering with us and its active contributions towards mobile broadband standardization," said Dr. W. Charlton Adams, Jr., President of IEEE-SA. Huawei has been an active contributor to IEEE standards since 2003. The company has participated in numerous IEEE 802 standards working groups, including 802.3, 802.15, 802.15, 802.17, 802.18, and 802.21, and played a significant role in the development process of the IEEE 802.16 WiMAX standard. "These industry standards enable operators to realize their connectivity goals, while providing consumers with high quality and reliable services," said Adams. "Huawei is honored to receive this recognition for our partnership with the IEEE to drive the industry toward advanced mobile broadband standards," said Dr. Guolin Wang, Executive Vice President of Research and Development, Huawei North America. In addition, IEEE-SA has named the IEEE Communications Society Standards Board as the recipient of this year's IEEE-SA Sponsor Award, for its "outstanding leadership in the development and promotion of high quality entity standards in the area of telecommunications." The IEEE Communications Society Standards Board has established a process to promote, encourage, and develop standards important to the communications industry. As part of this process, the Board actively recognized the need for groups of companies interested in developing markets for communications products that require interoperability with products from multiple companies. The award was accepted by Alex Gelman, Director of Standards for the IEEE Communications Society.
