Bangalore: Hewlett Packard (HP), after its acquisition of Palm, now intends to put together part of its own mobile technology with what it has acquired from its purchase of Palm. The HP labs in Paolo Alto and Bangalore would work in this regard and bring the technology from the acquisition to the market place.
Sudhir Dixit, Director, HP Labs India said, "Things like 3D have significant growth potential in sectors like education and entertainment. We are working with Palo Alto (Labs) in developing technology unique and relevant to India."
The R&D wing of HP will work extensively toward pushing forward Palm's webOS platform. The new technologies in the offing are gesture and other human-machine interface innovations. HP has made several strides in the backend software technologies but needs to grow in the smartphone and mobile connectivity business as this market is poised to touch around $100 billion.
HP Multimedia Communication & Networking Labs Director John Apostolopoulos said, "India, with its increasing mobile subscription numbers, would be ideal place to market things like multi-lingual input/output, gesture-based technology (on mobile) and use of mobile to get better TV viewing experience."
