Bangalore: Nearly half of the tweets consumed on Twitter come from only 0.05 percent of the Twitter users, reveals a new study. In an interesting study done by Yahoo Research titled, 'Who Says What to Whom on Twitter,' it was found that a small group of 'elite' members creates nearly half of the tweets on the micro-blogging site. Looking at the 260 million tweets posted between July 28, 2009 and March 8, 2010, it was found that 50 percent of the tweets are shared by only 20,000 users which is less than 0.05 percent of the total members. The researcher categorized the elite users to four groups such as celebrities, bloggers, representatives of media outlets and other formal organizations and ordinary users. The study was of the opinion that twitter is more of an information-sharing hub rather than a social network as users tend to follow back far less than they're followed.
