Bangalore: Google, the search giant has initiated a local coupon service, similar to that of Groupon. This search engine has also expanded its hands into core search operations of mobile phones and other products eventually.
Like Groupon (a deal-of-the-day website that features discounted gift certificates usable at local or national companies) Google will also offer time-limited deals from local vendors, such as restaurants. Likewise, $10 will get you $20 worth food at a restaurant.
'Google Offers' was demonstrated at the D9 conference in Palos Verdes by Eric Schmidt, Vice President, Google. These services are similar to Groupon which provide daily deal from various merchant partners. Google demonstrated a deal for $10 worth of Floyd's coffee for $3 on stage.
The imperative initiation of 'Google Offers' will result in integrating seamlessly with 'Google Wallet' (NFC (Near field communication) - based payment system). Completed offers are saved to a user's Google Wallet, where they are automatically saved and redeemable. Eventually they will be utilized automatically through NFC.
The Chairman of Google, Eric Schmidt announced that its Groupon competitor will be launched initially in Portland tomorrow, followed by New York, San Francisco and other cities during the summer. Off late Google had already attempted and lagged behind to lay its hands on Groupon for $6 billion last year. As a result, Google developed its own Groupon Competitor named as Google Offers.
In order to seek support and participation in its contests, pre-paid offers and vouchers program, Google is approaching small businesses. Google would not reveal about the availability of its offers or details about its plans.
