Google gets private, raises privacy worries
San Francisco: Google is said to have grabbed personal information of people from Wi-Fi networks, which raises privacy worries for the search engine. A public apology was also issued on Friday against it regarding the issue. The collection of snippets from e-mails and Web surfing done on public Wi-Fi networks are mistakes, claims Google. About 600 gigabytes of data was taken off of the Wi-Fi networks in over 30 countries, including the U.S. Google plans to delete it all as soon as it gains clearance from the government authorities. The company officials themselves have confessed that snooping on Wi-Fi networks crossed an ethical line. Google has also been criticized by the Consumer Protection Minister of Germany. According to him, the search engine must co-operate better with data protection authorities.
