FarmVille dethroned by Phrases as top Facebook app
Bangalore: The reigning app on Facebook, FarmVille has reportedly been dethroned by Phrases. However, the range by which Phrases races ahead of FarmVille is marginal. The Phrases app, which lets users post a range of content to their news feed, like quotes, quiz results, images and others, reported 54.3 million monthly users as compared to FarmVille's 53.9 million active monthly users. However, Phrases is unlikely to continue the dominance and FarmVille is soon expected to regain the top spot. This is mainly because U.S. users have been barred the access of Phrases without any reason cited for the same. Takeoff Monkey, the makers of Phrases, posted a message on their site that read, "Sorry, currently Phrases can't be accessed from within the U.S. We've had to make this tough decision in spite of the support of our fans in the U.S. Currently we have no timeline for lifting this restriction." As a result of this barring, there has been a steep decline in the app's daily active users' count. This brings us to the conclusion that FarmVille will, once again, hold the reins of top apps on Facebook. FarmVille had ruled the roost since August 2009. The creator of FarmVille, Zynga, meanwhile is coming up with more weapons from its arsenal. Zynga already holds the reputation of creating five of the top seven apps on Facebook. These include Texas HoldEm Poker, FrontierVille, Mafia Wars, and Cafe World in addition to FarmVille. Now Zynga is all set to come up with its latest game app, CityVille to further strengthen its hold in the game apps world as it awaits FarmVille's return to the top.
