Dell announces new datacenter solutions

Auckland: Dell has introduced new storage and networking solutions and services designed to help customers simplify and standardize their datacenters. Dell's vision for the datacenter allows customers to create a flexible infrastructure orchestrated through synchronized infrastructure management.
With 10GbE as the underlying fabric customers can increase performance while decreasing costs. Customers can cut a large part of their network management costs and consolidate cabling with an end-to-end 10GbE architecture.
Dell, has added more than 12,000 new EqualLogic customers since completing the acquisition. The company is introducing 10GbE controllers to its EqualLogic PS6000 series storage arrays. The new EqualLogic PS6010 and PS6510 deliver up to ten times more bandwidth per port. The latest 10GbE EqualLogic arrays can provide a higher level of performance for business applications such as Oracle and Microsoft SQL database applications, streaming video and bandwidth-intensive workloads, all at a fraction of the cost of Fibre Channel and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) solutions due to easier and lower cost of management of a single fabric infrastructure.
The new 10Gbps EqualLogic arrays are designed to fully inter-operate with the existing 1Gbps arrays thus offering performance and scaling to all EqualLogic customers. Dell is also announcing the version 4.3 of the EqualLogic firmware that together significantly increase the capacity of the EqualLogic PS series of products. As a result, all old and new Dell EqualLogic SANs can expand from a maximum of 12 arrays per group to 16 arrays per group by deploying the new firmware. The value of EqualLogic lies in the fact that this capability is offered to customers who bought EqualLogic arrays even three years ago at no extra charge, as long as they are covered by a valid Dell maintenance contract, keeping our customer's investment protection in mind.
With this introduction, groups containing the EqualLogic PS6500X with 10K SAS drives can now scale to more than 460TB of raw capacity per group (up from 115TB). These enhancements also allow customers to now scale an EqualLogic architecture to 768TB per group with the EqualLogic PS6500E. When combined with the latest 10GbE controllers, the EqualLogic family of products delivers enterprise-class performance and scalability in a cost-effective manner.
Additionally, Dell has enhanced its existing Dell ProConsult Storage Consolidation services to offer customers a practical and results-oriented approach to help solve difficult storage challenges. This service helps customers understand the potential of consolidation, select and design the right technology components, integrate technologies and achieve the appropriate level of performance and data protection.
