Cypress launch touch screen solution for water beat KDDI phone
Bangalore: Cypress Semiconductor Corporation has introduced TrueTouch touch screen solution for implementing their new waterproof touch screen for the KDDI Sportio water resistive mobile phone. The phone is manufactured by Sharp Communication Systems Group, and has a 3-inch touch screen with exciting colors, and integrates a water resistive feature equivalent to IPX5/7. As defined by the International Electrotechnical Commission, standard IPX5 defines that the phone will not fail when it is subjected to a three minute burst of water spouting from various directions, using a 6.3mm diameter nozzle, at a rate of around 12.5 liters per minute, for more than three minutes. Standard IPX7 defines that the phone will not fail and no water will enter inside the unit when it is placed in a tank filled with ordinary tap water, to a depth of one meter, at normal room temperature, for around 30 minutes. The phone targets active users, with a small size and weight along with applications equipped towards fitness, golf and other outdoor activities using both GPS and accelerometer technologies. The phone also has one-segment digital TV, a 3.2 megapixel camera and an audio player. "TrueTouch technology will contribute the phone to excel in the market, which is a competitive offering," said Norm Taffe, Executive Vice President, Consumer and Computation Division, Cypress. TrueTouch phones are based on the Programmable System-on-Chip (PSoC) programmable system-on-chip architecture, includes single-touch, multitouch and "multi-touch all-point" offerings. The multi-touch all-point solution can track up to 10 simultaneous touches. The solution also enables the best water resistance. In addition, the PSoC architecture allows designers to implement differentiated features and make last-minute design iterations without board changes. With the TrueTouch architecture, customers have the option to work with a wide variety of touchscreen vendors and LCD module vendors to create their designs.
