Chrome, Safari rise; IE, Firefox go down in browser market share

Bangalore: Google's Chrome browser has doubled its market share in 2010 and grabbed 9.98 percent of the browser pie. The browser had started the year with a modest 5.2 percent market share. The hike in the market share was particularly witnessed from November through December. Net Applications, the market researcher who carried out the study reports that Google acquired 9.27 percent share during this time, up from 8.5 percent in October. Market leader, Internet Explorer, suffered a set back as a result of Chrome's rise. The browser from Microsoft lost 5.04 percent of the market share in the past year. Firefox and Opera also lost their share in the browser market by 1.62 percent and 0.15 percent respectively. Apart from Chrome, the only other gainer was the Safari browser that increased its market share by 1.36 percent in 2010.
