Cataracts can be detected by MIT Smartphone Clip on
Bangalore: A team of MIT research scholars are working on a project to find a simple way to provide diagnosis of Cataracts within a minute. As one may know that stopping the growth of cataracts and diagnosing the defect in the early stage is an expensive process. The Massachusetts scholars have a great technique in mind to provide an inexpensive option for diagnosing cataracts. Ramesh Raskar (lead of media lab camera culture) and his team is working on a technology called Catra system. It is made up off- the- shelf components. It is an eye piece that can be clipped on to a smartphone or an I-pod touch. As the person who suffers from cataract looks through the device his eye is being scanned. There are several lines that appears on the screen to the user who peers through the device. When an image appears cloudy the person can then click on a button in the device to identify the point on which the image seemed to appear blurred. Therefore it can be easily detected that the person is suffering from cataract or not. Reports from MIT reveal that Raskar have tested catra technology on 22 people and have succeeded . It is more accurate in diagnosing the disease than the doctors examination.
