Bangalore: Remember about the dotcom burst or the ifs' and buts' about Y2K? Its outcome was noteworthy yet very subtle, but no one can forget about the hype and debates on these topics which used to make every person curious to get into a detailed discussion. At present, cloud computing is going through the same hype cycle. It is perceived that cloud will shift the dependence of users on the traditional IT infrastructure and will enable people to focus on value added work. Though organizations are thinking about their strategy to shift their applications to cloud, there is a big threat to security which holds back the organization to take this step drastically. To discuss over these issues, Siliconindia had organized the Security Intelligence Conference where the challenges in dealing with network and web security were discussed by practitioners and professionals in the field of technology. With the advent of social networking sites and its growing popularity, security of information seems to be impossible these days. "A large chunk of users on social networking sites have their personal information available on the web by default," said Venkat Krishnapur, Senior Director and Head, Consumer Engineering Group, McAfee. "It is not only cyber insecurity but it will also cost an individual's job if any user posts some information about its organizational practices," adds Krishnapur. These days filtering information from Google is quite easy and therefore there seems to be no way in hiding our personal information. Hacking of information does not seem to be that difficult in current scenario. By using the exact phrases, page ranks and links, any information could be retrieved from the web. "If its web hacking, one has to pick the site and find the vulnerability and if its google hacking, one has to pick vulnerability and then find the site," said Manish Kumar, Founder and CEO, Rooman Technologies. With the dependence on technology in the present scenario, cyber security is the primary concern both at the individual and organizational level. On one hand, the organizations want to adopt newer and better technology and at the same time, the focus is also on the security of the technology.
