Apple's App Store crosses 10 Billion download mark

Bangalore: Apple's App Store has finally reached the 10 billion download figure. The company had started a countdown a week ago when the App Store hit the 9.7 billion downloads count. The Store reached the much desired 10 billion mark on Saturday and the 10 billionth app was downloaded by the daughter of UK based Gail Davis. She downloaded the app "Paper Glider" which has won her $10,000 worth of virtual cash.
Apple had launched its App Store service on July 10th 2008. It is a service for IOS devices by Apple. This service allows users to browse and download application from the iTunes store for either free
or at a cost, depending on the applications. App Store is accessible from the iphone, ipod & iPad and can
be downloaded directly to the device or through the computer via iTunes. The App store was started
with 500 applications and now it offers more than 350,000 applications which also include programmes
for business, health, news, sports, reference and travels.
Apple Marketing Vice President Philip Schiller said that this is a milestone for Apple. He also added that the App Store has changed the way software is created, distributed, discovered and sold.
