Bangalore: In an effort to battle the increasing competition from handsets based on Google's Android software, Apple is said to be working on a low-cost version of the iPhone. Although Apple has not revealed the plan to the public yet, people close to the development said that one of its new models would be cheaper and smaller than the most recent iPhone, reports the Bloomberg.
It has also been reported that the tablet maker is developing a technology for easier use of iPhone on multiple wireless networks. According to the report, a source has seen the new device and the new iPhone Mini would be around two thirds of the size of the current iPhone and does not feature a 'home' key.
The new iPhones will be priced less to prevent more users going for Google's Android software and to attract more customers Nokia Oyj, which is increasing its presence in Europe. The new strategic partnership in smartphone development between Nokia and Microsoft will cause stiff competition to Apple in the coming days.
According to the report, the sources revealed that Apple initially planned to unveil the device mid-way through 2011 and very few Apple employees know the 'iPhone mini' exists.
