Tech Innovators Grab Oscar Statuette

Bangalore: Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' annual Scientific and Technical Awards was set in Beverly Hills honoring the best of the year's technical achievements; the hall was replete with engineers, computer wizards, and technicians, reports Yahoo News.

The Star Trek costars Saldana and Pine joined forces to host Sci-Tech Oscars, and the whole crew of the Starship Enterprise was down on earth.

"We're truly humbled, by all means, man. We can fly into space because of you," Saldana told honorees at the event Saturday night.

The duo handed out plaques, certificates and a statuette to people who toiled behind the scenes on everything from visual effects to new camera innovations.

Pine and Saldana took turns attempting to describe technical accomplishments like "pose space deformation" and "wavelet turbulence." Pine allowed that one software innovation was too complex for "dumb actors" to fully comprehend.
