Gianfranco Lanci,Acer
Gianfranco Lanci, acquired the position of CEO and President of Acer's Inc, the second ranking giant seller of pc, in the year 2008 and continued till April this year. He resigned from his position which was successively acquired by J.T. Wang, who voluntarily took over the position. Frequent clashes and disagreements between himself and exchange of opinions with Acer board members to reach a consensus marked the end of his tenure.
Lanci had serious differences in opinion with Acers' Board Committee member about future priorities and promises laid down by the company concerning Company's strategy on "importance on scale, growth, customer value creation, brand position enhancement, and on resource allocation and methods of implementation." The talks continued for several months but failed to reach a general consensus.
In an official statement from the company, Wang pointed out the differences with the departing chief executive. saying "The personal computer remains the core of our business."
Lanci's views on Acer's future development differed "from a majority of the board members, and could not reach a consensus following several months of dialog," Acer said.
"They placed different levels of importance on scale, growth, customer value creation, brand position enhancement, and on resource allocation and methods of implementation," Acer quoted.
Apart from that, with the arrival of the new rival market players such as Apple iPad and Samsung Galaxy Tab. in the business line, the sales targeted towards driving considerable capital, declined. The rival players' popularity gained grounds to a considerable extent slowing down Acer's self paced business of mobile and tablet computers. As a consequence to it, revenue prices fall rapidly to 10% in the first quarter as demand of those gadgets, particularly in U.S and Europe went down. Acer's market share witnessed a drop till 18% in the initial period of first four trading sessions.
However, despite the economic downturn in Acer's share, Lanci was appreciated for his contribution to Acer's growth during his tenure where his efforts were appreciated and the company wished him all success in his future ventures, in Acer's news release.
