Steve Jobs talks, Twitter drops yet again
Bangalore: Twitter went down yet again, following Steve Jobs announcement that Apple's iTunes software will work with Twitter. This is the third time, Twitter went down during an Apple event. The highly volatile service famously went down following a Jobs keynote in January 2008 and then again in 2009 when Apple Executive Phil Schiller filled in for him. Although Jobs does not have a profile on Twitter, he has many followers on these sites, who feel obliged to spread the word every time he speaks. Jobs was delivering the firm's traditional September address. "Apple" and "Jobs" became Twitter's top trending topics almost immediately. Users of the website were met with blank pages alerting them to a "HTTP Server Error 503" when they tried to log on. The service was restored within 15 minutes, but users endured problems throughout Wednesday with their @ messages pages failing to refresh. Reports suggest that the problems started when Jobs announced that the new iTunes would be compatible with Twitter, although it is not known whether this is what precipitated the meltdown. Jobs only returned to work in June after recovering from a liver transplant, and many analysts had not expected him to appear.
