State to Get Animation and Gaming Policy Soon: Karnataka CM

Bangalore: It was a pleasant Diwali gift for the techies in the state as Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gawda declared at the inaugural ceremony of ICT event IT.biz 2011 that a new gaming and animation policy will be unveiled soon to boost the industry.
Gowda stated, "The state will soon come out with a policy on animation and gaming to enhance this promising sector, having prospects of reaching
10,000 crore by 2012-13 and escalating the IT competence of the state."
The event focuses on innovation and research and development (R&D) to drive the next wave of the knowledge economy. It's the 14th birthday of IT.biz, which originally started off as IT.in, then IT.com and now emerged out as IT.biz. This IT event has been an enterprise of Government of Karnataka and Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Bangalore for the last 13 years. It is India's foremost ICT event recognized globally. Responding to the shifting expectations of the Industry, the event has been restructured to make it a B2B platform.
In its 14th year, Bangalore IT.biz 2011 will capture the major ICT developments sweeping the country today. It will bring innumerable opportunities to do business, covering new technologies and myriad applications. The best of leading ICT Industry, SMEs, Start-ups, Governments, Financial Institutions and IT user groups will participate this three-day event.
The event was inaugurated by former president Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The Chief Minister of Karnataka, Sadananda Gowda also attended the ceremony.
Abdul Kalam stated that Indian IT industry must expand their vision to emerge out as a knowledge system powerhouse. Addressing around 500 delegates participating in the event, Kalam said, "To achieve global operations, the Indian IT sector should introduce virtual platforms for development of knowledge products based on national experience in engineering design of multiple systems."
The theme, "India Innovates" provides a stage to promote an eco-system for innovation and position Bangalore as the R&D gateway of India. Bangalore, being the innovation hub of the country, outshined as the prime destination for a large number of R&D centres, multinationals and Indian IT leaders like Wipro and Infosys.
Realizing that IT players have been influential in placing Bangalore on the world IT map, C.M. Sadananda Gowda said that Karnataka contributed about 30 percent of country's export for the healthy growth of Indian IT industry over the years. Software firm exports and back office operation firms have contributed around
90,000 crore during the time period of 2010-2011.
Structured by the state IT department in a joint venture with industry associations, conferences will also be held on Aadhaar - the Unique Identification Number (UID) project, human resource and skill development.
The event will also embrace a CEO conclave and present Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) IT Export Awards, Young Entrepreneurs' Start-ups in Soaring Spirits (YESSS) and national rural IT quiz. Around 50 start-ups and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) are displaying their products and technologies in a special pavilion along with about 130 exhibitors across the sectors.
Bihar and 10 other states including Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal are participating in the event.
