One of the branding success stories of all time, Xerox's name became a synonyms to photocopiers and this proved to be a backlash for the brand. It never mattered to people if the machine was made by Canon or Kodak, but they referred to it as Xerox. In 1975, Xerox Data Systems was launched but failed drastically. The company underwent a loss of $85 million. Xerox tried to launch several other products for its customers, but failed drastically as people were not willing to think of Xerox in any other terms than office copier technology.
