Newton Technology
The infamous Apple Newton platform can be said to be the grand parent of iPhone and iPad. This created a revolution in the business world. The development of the device started in 1987 and was officially released in 1997. It was Apple's first tablet platform. The term PDA (personal digital assistant) was created around the Newton and was coined by the then CEO of Apple Steve Jobs. The original base software included programs for names, dates, notes, a calculator, time zone maps and even a handwriting recognition program that worked even when the display was rotated.
However, several problems created a hindrance in the success of Newton when it came out as the first true PDA. It was out of the budget for an average person, huge in size and had software problems. Another issue with the success of Newton was its technology, which was much ahead of time, and consumers had no real familiarity with the product or how useful it could be.
