Santa Clara: California-based ScaleXtreme, a cloud-based systems management company, succeeded in raising $11 million in series B funding led by Ignition Partners. Accel Partners who are the previous investor in the company also participated in the funding. The fund will be used to accelerate the rollout of additional product capabilities and expand marketing and sales for the company's innovative new way of managing hybrid clouds.
Co-Founded by Nand Mulchandani and Balaji Srinivasa, the company is building the next generation of systems management products delivered as a cloud service. The product of the company aims to transform the way IT admins manage their Amazon EC2, VMware virtual machine and physical server deployments. Accel Partners back ScaleXtreme. The board of the company includes Ping Li from Accel and Nand Mulchandani and Balaji Srinivasa. Frank Artale, Managing Director at Ignition, will join the board.
Mulchandani, CEO of ScaleXtreme, said, "There is a dramatic shift going on in the computing industry with the advent of virtualization and public cloud computing and with this, there is a significant opportunity for some company to transform the management of the new computing landscape."
Prior to co-founding ScaleXtreme, Mulchandani was an Entrepreneur-In-Residence at Accel Partners, where he started work on the company that became ScaleXtreme, in addition to working on projects in cloud computing, consumer internet, as well as advising a number of companies on product and growth strategies. Prior to this, he was the CEO of OpenDNS, where he lead the company through a growth phase in DNS traffic, consumer router integrations and the launch of enterprise products. He also has worked as the Senior Director of Product Management and Marketing at VMware and was responsible for security strategy, product management and security marketing. Prior to this, he was the Vice President of Marketing and Business Development at Determina, which was acquired by VMware in August 2007. He was the founding CEO of Determina where he led the company from inception to early revenue stage.
Prior to this, he was the Co-Founder and VP Product Management at Oblix (acquired by Oracle), where he helped guide the company to a leadership position in the Identity and Access Management market. Prior to Oblix, he was at Sun Microsystems, working on compilers and optimization including work on the first Java compilers.

Balaji Srinivasa is the CTO and Co-Founder of ScaleXtreme, leading product architecture and engineering operations. Prior to co-founding ScaleXtreme, he was an early member of the engineering team at Bladelogic, a leading configuration management company, where he was the Principal Product Architect. Bladelogic went public in 2005 and was subsequently acquired by BMC for $800 million in 2007. Prior to this, he worked in senior technical roles at Platinum Technology and Computer Associates, including Principal Software Engineer for the Platinum Enterprise Management Solution and Senior Product Architect for CA's eTrust Security Solutions. In his initial career days, he was the Senior Software Engineer at CGI Systems, an IBM Company.
He worked as a Software Consultant with Unisys, where he worked on manufacturing applications and systems management frameworks, prior to joining CGI Systems. He started his career in software as a Senior Software Engineer at Godrej and Boyce, one of the largest privately held engineering and consumer products company in India, where he developed system utilities and application software for the IT department. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Regional Engineering College, Surat, India.
