Engine Yard raises $19 Million in Series C funding

Bangalore: Engine Yard, a San Francisco-based provider of Ruby on Rails automation and management technologies, has raised $19 million in Series C funding. This financing round is led by new investors - DAG Ventures, Bay Partners and Presidio Ventures along with the participation of the previous investors - Benchmark Capital, Amazon.com, and New Enterprise Associates. With this latest capital investment, Engine Yard will continue to build out the Engine Yard Cloud to meet enterprise requirements, build support offerings for JRuby development teams, and continue to invest in the open source projects. "We are excited to have our new venture capital partners sign on to the Engine Yard mission to create the leading Application Cloud for Ruby on Rails," said John Dillon, CEO of Engine Yard. According to him, "Ruby on Rails continues to drive a revolution in application development. In partnership with infrastructure providers, our goal is to continue to build out the platform and services that combine to make Ruby on Rails the obvious choice for any developer who wants to build a reliable, high performance application at any scale." Founded in 2006, Engine Yard provides Engine Yard Cloud, an application services platform for web developers and web teams. It provides easy-to-use, automated Rails application deployment and management, with a design philosophy that allows easy migration of existing applications. As stated by the company, Engine Yard employs industry experts for many open source projects. Sunil Pareenja is the Vice President of Finance at Engine Yard with responsibility for managing the company's accounting, financial planning and analysis, treasury, tax, and human resources functions. Currently, there are about 90 employees in the company. "Its leadership, particularly with open source projects like JRuby and Rubinius, is bringing new levels of automation, scale and reliability to Ruby developers all over the world, and is pushing the Ruby on Rails ecosystem even further into the enterprise," said Peter Fenton, General Partner at Benchmark Capital.
