5 Worst IT Product Failures

Wave
In April 2010, Google announced its plans to no longer use Google Wave as a standalone product, which created a lot of media frenzy. Wave, which was supposed to reinvent the way emails were used, by bringing in instant messenger and social media together, created a huge hype during its launch in 2009, but fell flat on its face. Wave failed to attract people with serious business ideas, it undermined the use of a separate IM (people found the idea of using Wave just to chat, vague), it failed to catch on with the developers, and had cut-throat competition from Facebook, e-mail, and IM. This made Google realize that they were not able to determine the mindset of the audience, leading to the end of Wave.
